Jack White's 'other' band The Raconteurs made their return to London last night (May 14) after a two-year absence.

Radiohead are performing their sixth show of the US tour at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in St. Louis, MO tonight. The band have soundchecked Kid A, along with a cover of The Rip, a song off the new Portishead album “Third”.

Outta site! They're doing it at ATP New York, they're doing it in Pioneertown, California, and now, they're doing it in the Big Apple...twice. Yep, Built to Spill will run through all eight epic tracks of their near-flawless 1997 jammer Perfect From Now On at New York's Terminal 5 September 25 and 26. That's the weekend after they do the same for the unwashed many at ATP New York way upstate in the Catskills.
And, in case one of the premiere guitar bands of our day reliving one of their finest hours ain't enough, the Terminal 5 gigs find the band heading a bill that also sports two of the finest guitar bands of any day: Meat Puppets and Dinosaur Jr. Now there's a couple encores somebody better fucking rush to YouTube.
Of course, your usual Built to Spill show is something to be seen, and there's plenty to feast your face on when the band kicks off their not-entirely-Perfect tour later in the month. Oh, and if it's a Perfect night in you're looking for, you can catch Built to Spill on either the latest "Pancake Mountain" DVD or the new CD from the "Tim and Eric" bunch. [MORE...]

Gosh, it sure seems like every Tom, Dick, and Harry in a button-up and a vest is talking up Vampire Weekend nowadays. Right?

might seem like the world's least likely source for left-field indie
rock references, but check this out: for roughly the last decade, the strip's
been penned by one Francesco Marciuliano, who looks like a dude who digs Vampire Weekend and Trail of Bread. Man, what a strange gig to have.
Thanks to Phil Bucska for the tip.
As for Vampire Weekend, they've added a ton of dates since our last report, and here they are, after the jump. [MORE...]
Ratatat will release their third album this summer
Well, it was either that headline up there or Coldplay won't be 'doing a Radiohead'. Which as well as being slightly tiresome in itself has already kind've been used, so we have this, news that Coldplay won't be ditching EMI disguised as a semi-humourous jibe. Stirring stuff
More names have been added to the bill for this year's Hove Festival

I have to say, of all the large-scale music gatherings going down the weekend of July 18-20 in this big old world of ours, Ferropolis, Germany's Melt! Festival is a strong contender for the second place spot. The locale, a pristine lake surrounded by huge industrial-era machinery, is choice, and the bill's no slouch, neither.
This year's Melt! features appearances from Björk, Franz Ferdinand, Robyn, Hot Chip, Battles, Los Campesinos!, Bonde do Role, Fujiya & Miyagi, Roísín Murphy, the Notwist, Why?, Hercules and Love Affair, Supermayer, Modeselektor, Gui Boratto, Booka Shade, M.A.N.D.Y., Editors, Mr. Oizo, (International) Noise Conspiracy, the Count & Sinden, the Teenagers, the Whitest Boy Alive, Miss Kittin and the Hacker, Lightspeed Champion, the Wombats, Late of the Pier, dEUS, Friendly Fires, Sascha Funke, Burger/Voigt, Operator Please, Ellen Allien, Boys Noize, MEN, Adam Green, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Kate Nash, and a whole lot more. Also, Uffie & Feadz will pump out a jam or two with the help of Technotronic... yes, THAT Technotronic!

Due to Sunday night's torrential rain storm and consequential multiple road closures, many fans were unable to reach the Nissan Pavilion. While acknowledging a lack of control over the ensuing flooding and detours, the members of Radiohead are nevertheless disappointed regarding this turn of events. Adele, Duffy and The Fratellis are among the acts set to play the summer gigs at London's Somerset House.

EMI is releasing a Radiohead best of, much to the chagrin of Thom Yorke. But are retrospective compilations really such a bad thing?
Hey Everyone!
We are going to be jumping on the Vans Warped Tour for some of the East coast dates in July and August. Check out exact dates in the tour section!
To everyone who made it, and put up with the torrents on the lawn, and came early to catch the Liars and our show, thank you so much for braving the deluge. I hope you heard what you came for, the music and lights diverting you from the wet. We got out of there around three am, and the pic shows Jonny waiting in the loading bay whilst the water streams across the tarmac. We've had floods at Bull Creek, lightning at the RFK stadium, so there must be some kind of Biblical fix between us and DC. Frogs next time?

Morrissey made the following semi-inscrutable statement about his July 4 headlining set (his only UK show this summer):
"What is classical is what we all agree on, and I think we all acknowledge Hyde Park festivals as important events. I am honored to be asked to headline on July 4, marking my 26th year haunting British music, and following the Hyde Park greats-- T. Rex, Joan Armatrading, and someone with insecure teeth. I promise a thundering bill of tight nerves and suavity and all your favorites from Disc magazine. I will take Hyde Park like a flea inhabits a dog. Art-hounds and people with badly cut hair are very welcome. I shall...

Have you seen this crazy "Pancake Mountain" show? It is way crazy, dude. A bunch of puppets, a bunch of indie rockers, and a whole mess of kids get together to say and do the darndest things, and even more wackiness ensues from the mixture that you can possibly imagine.
The fifth "Pancake Mountain" DVD-- collecting episodes nine and 10, plus a handful of bonus features-- is out now, and boy howdy, is the lineup of talent impressive.
The DVD features appearances from the likes of Wayne Coyne, M.I.A., Built to Spill, Iggy Pop, Meat Puppets, X, Nellie McKay, Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins, PSAPP, Scissor Sisters, Northern State and so on. Your next dance party/babysitting gig/drug binge so needs this.
As always, check your local listings to see if there's a "Pancake Mountain" anywhere near your airwaves.

At whatever point in the summer that 30 minute, 10 track, Danger Mouse-produced, Cat Power-boosted Beck LP we've been talking about a lot this week happens to arrive, it'll do so in the UK thanks to the folks at his new overseas imprint, XL Recordings. The disc, about which we know literally nothing not contained within these two sentences, will hit the U.S. from Interscope sometime relatively soon.
Says XL founder Richard Russell in a press release: "We can't wait for everyone to hear the extraordinary music that he and Danger Mouse have made together." Says us: As representives of "everyone," we concur. We can't wait.
Beck's summer tour is currently scheduled to kick off June 25 at the Hove Festival in Arendal, Norway. [MORE...]
